Maximalism
I was a maximalist before I had ever even heard the term. I began the maximalist life quite by accident in 2013 as a lonely expat newly arrived in the USA. Thrift shopping, antiquing and collecting gave me a purpose and direction in my life and brought me joy.
What is Maximalism??
Here's a great article to introduce you to this style:
This YouTube video explains it well and shows a ton of examples:
Prior to moving to the USA I preferred minimalist decor in our Perth home! Now it's hard to believe I was ever that person.
Our Colorado home was the first space I felt truly reflected my personality:
I had the kitchen painted Rust-Oleum Cottage Blue and filled the meals area with colorful vintage bakeware.
The chairs I bought to go with my vintage Formica table were five different colors and further indulged my love of all things vintage and colorful.
I also indulged that love of color in my sewing studio and it was a space I delighted in creating and using.
And so when we decided to move back to Australia I just knew the next house would be a blank canvas that would enable me to try new ways to display my passions and beloved belongings! Stay tuned to see it come together throughout 2023.
